MANAS WS-EWLS-SELA AND TAWANG
Day 1 | Guwahati to Dirang (210 km / 7-8 hrs)
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Guwahati to Dirang, where you’ll be treated to the region’s diverse birdlife. Along the way, enjoy birding in the lush forests, capturing glimpses of various species. After a long day of travel, settle in for an overnight stay in Dirang.
Day 2 | Dirang to Tawang
Embark on a birding expedition en route to Tawang. The day promises sightings of some of the Himalayas’ most beautiful birds, including the Himalayan Monal, Solitary Snipe, and Rosefinches. We’ll reach Tawang by evening, where you’ll have a restful night to prepare for more birding.
Day 3 | Tawang – Ani Gonpa Road
A short drive to Ani Gonpa Road will kick off a full day of birdwatching. Our primary targets include the elusive Satyr Tragopan, Tibetan Blackbird, and Collared Grosbeak. The region’s stunning landscapes and unique birds will make for an unforgettable experience. Overnight stay in Tawang.
Day 4 | Tawang to Dirang
Morning birding in Tawang offers a chance to spot any missed species. Afterward, we’ll travel via the breathtaking Sela Pass to Dirang, birdwatching along the way. Key targets include the Yellow-rumped Honeyguide and Brown Parrotbill. Overnight in Dirang.
Day 5 | Dirang to Mandala Top
A short drive will take you to Mandala Top, where we’ll spend the day birding. Highlights include the Temminck’s Tragopan, Black-throated Parrotbill, and Firetail Sunbird, as well as other rare species. Return to Dirang for the night.
Day 6 | Dirang to Lower Mandala
A brief drive brings us to Lower Mandala, where we’ll explore the dense forests for a range of species, such as the Blue-throated Flycatcher, Sapphire Flycatcher, and Rusty-tailed Flycatcher. In the evening, we’ll head to Tenga for an overnight stay.
Day 7 | Tenga to Eaglenest Pass
A short drive takes us to Eaglenest Pass, where we’ll spend the day birdwatching. Look out for the Himalayan Shortwing, Hill Partridge, and the rare Hodgson’s Frogmouth. Overnight stay in Tenga.
Day 8 | Tenga to Lama Camp
A 40-minute drive to Lama Camp sets the stage for another thrilling day of birding. Species like the Bugun Liocichla and Purple Cochoa are the stars of the day. We’ll also target Crested Bunting and Slender-billed Oriole. Return to Tenga for the night.
Day 9 | Tenga to Bomphu Camp
The day will be spent birding in the Bomphu Camp area, where we can expect sightings of the Blyth’s Tragopan, Blue-fronted Robin, and the rare Snowy-browed Flycatcher. Stay overnight at Bomphu Camp.
Day 10 | Bomphu Camp & Sesni
A full day of birding awaits us around the camp and at nearby Sesni, with opportunities to spot Beautiful Nuthatch, Rufous-necked Hornbill, and a variety of babblers. Overnight at Bomphu Camp.
Day 11 | Khellong Area
Birdwatching at Khellong promises a wealth of species, including the White-hooded Babbler, Large Blue Flycatcher, and Pale-billed Parrotbill. Overnight at Bomphu Camp.
Day 12 | Lower Khellong
Another day of exploration takes us to Lower Khellong, where the dense forests provide opportunities for spotting even more rare birds. We’ll return to Khellong for an overnight stay.
Day 13 | Khellong to Manas National Park (8-9 hrs drive)
After a morning birding session near Khellong, we head toward Manas National Park. The journey is long but filled with anticipation for the birding opportunities ahead. Overnight stay at Manas.
Day 14-15 | Manas National Park
Over two days, we’ll explore the heart of Manas National Park with morning and afternoon jeep safaris. We’ll be on the lookout for Bengal Florican, Black-breasted Parrotbill, and the stunning Blue-naped Pitta. The park’s rich biodiversity offers incredible birdwatching opportunities. Overnight stay at Manas.
Day 16 | Manas to Garbanga (3-4 hrs drive)
We’ll make our way to Garbanga for a full day of birding, targeting species such as the Great Slaty Woodpecker, Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, and Blue-winged Leafbird. Overnight in Guwahati.
Day 17 | Garbanga and Departure
On your final morning, enjoy a birding session at Garbanga before being dropped at the airport, bringing an end to your unforgettable birding journey.
